When it rains, it pours.
Esteban Benavides González aka Cash Flow of Grand Groove has passed away at age 24, after battling leukemia.
The news came as a shock to most in the music community, my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
The Spanish beatmaker from Zaragoza had talent and output unrivaled by anybody I know.
His beat style was reminiscent of old school to 90’s hip hop, yet very sharp and fresh.
Cash Flow’s signature samples and drums sound good in the trains in New York, in the car in California.
I had the opportunity to work on a couple of songs with Esteban, and last year he sent me 800 (yes, eight hundred) unreleased songs
to choose from for a new project together. Although I never met him in person, I still hope to finish the project and visit him when it’s done.
here’s a remix cut we did together for my mixCD last year.
I did a rough mix then he masterfully reconstructed it with the a cappella I sent him.
